Upcycling Basket Weaving

Last Saturday we went to a basket weaving course organized by the city. We had the whole day to work on three recycling projects.

4 milk cartons become a flat basket envelope:

12 pages of newspaper become a square basket with pointy edges…

… or a rectangular basket with even edges.

If you want to know more about the art of basket weaving with recycled material you can have a look at Lois Walpole’s blog.

Ojos de dios

A fun short project to make decorative things to hang on your wall or window. For this you only need two long wood skewers and scraps of wool. By wrapping the wool around the skewers you get these colorful “Ojos de Dios” (or as I prefer to call them “Lid for Russell’s Teapot”).

Upcycling: The woven map basket

One nice project you can do with old road maps: Weave a basket. I made a tall one. Maybe I put a glass in it and use it as a vase…IMG_3305

A tutorial can be found here.

Upcycling: Milk carton basket

In the series of upcycling projects, I started making woven baskets out of milk or juice cartons. This one is just a first experiment. The basket is about 10x10x5cm.
