Watercolor Wednesday: DIY Travel Watercolor Set

For travelling or just convenience it is nice to have a small watercolor set. A good travelling set is quiet expensive, so I decided to make my own. At the dollar store I bought a small compartment box.

The box has certain walls you can take out. That is nice, but also makes the compartments for the colors leaky. For now I decided to solve this by making tin foil trays for all colors (see below).

In the box I am going to fit

  • 2B pencil
  • eraser
  • sharpener
  • waterbrush
  • watercolors

This is the basic equipment I use. Additional I need water, paper towels and (obviously) paper to draw on.

I cut off the pencil to fit into the case. Also I cut off a piece of the eraser. This is how the brush, pencil, sharpener and eraser fit:

Because I want to use 10 colors and I only have 5 trays in the box, I decided to make small recipients out of tin foil for each color.

I don’t know how well the tin foil trays will work when using a lot of water. My humble guess is that they should work well with the waterbrush I am using.

Done! Now I just have to try it out.
